If you are looking for an air conditioning contractor in Westside Los Angeles, the real question is what the contractor will actually do at your house. WLA Climate Group installs new AC systems in West Los Angeles, and the scope of work is written down before we start. Request the written scope and quote for your home and you will see every task and its price.
The price depends on the scope
For the same size of unit, the scope can change the job a lot. On mini split work we do not publish one number, because heads, distance and building rules change it too much.
Those numbers cover different kinds of jobs. They are not interchangeable, and a ducted whole-house job is priced from its own survey. What moves any of them is the same short list: equipment, ducts, electrical, line-set length, condenser location and permit. The quote lists each one.
Tasks in a full install scope
Here is how we divide the work, in the order it happens.
- Survey and load calculation, room by room.
- Equipment selection matched to that calculation, with model numbers on the quote.
- Removal of the old condenser and indoor coil or air handler.
- Setting the new outdoor unit on a pad or bracket in the agreed spot.
- Line set, drain and condensate routing.
- Electrical connection, disconnect and any panel work the equipment needs.
- Duct and return changes where the survey calls for them.
- Startup, airflow and refrigerant checks.
- Permit, final inspection and a walkthrough with you.
If a contractor's quote skips tasks from this list, ask who is doing them. Someone has to.
Where the condenser goes
In Palms, Century City and Cheviot Hills, the outdoor unit location is often the hard part of the job. We check it against lot lines, neighbors and HOA rules before the quote is final. A condo or duplex may need a different plan than a house with a side yard, so we confirm access early.
Central or ductless
Not every house needs ducts. If a room has no ducted supply or a duct run is too costly to extend, a ductless mini split can be the cleaner answer. If the house already has good ducts, a ducted central system may fit better. We write both up side by side when both could work, so the quote shows each cost. You pick based on numbers, not on what one contractor prefers to sell.
Permit, inspection and testing
Replacing an AC, furnace, heat pump or ductwork in California is permitted work. In West Los Angeles the permit comes from LADBS, and we pull it. Depending on the scope, Title 24 Part 6 can require duct sealing and a duct leakage test, verified by a third-party HERS rater who is not the installer. We schedule that test as part of the job so the final inspection is not delayed.
New residential split systems are now made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32, and the quote names the equipment you are getting. For the full list of what we handle, see AC installation or the West Los Angeles area page.
What to ask before you sign
Whoever you hire, put these questions to them in writing and keep the answers with the quote.
- Who sizes the system, and can you see the load calculation?
- Which model numbers are on the quote, and do they match what arrives on install day?
- Is the electrical work inside the price or a separate line?
- Who pulls the permit and who meets the inspector?
- What happens to the old equipment?
We answer all five on the proposal itself. A contractor who cannot answer them before the work starts is unlikely to answer them after.
Install day
The crew arrives with the equipment on the quote. The old system comes out, the new one is set and connected, and we start it and check airflow before we leave. Condo and duplex jobs take extra planning for access, parking and shared walls, and we raise those at the survey so install day has no gaps.
Repair is still on the table
If your current unit is repairable, we will say so. We take AC repair calls too. When a repair no longer makes sense, the next step is the survey and written quote, not a pressure pitch.
FAQ
Does the quote list each task?
Yes. The written quote breaks out equipment, ducts, electrical, permit and install labor so you can compare it against anyone else's.
Will you handle HOA paperwork?
We check the condenser spot against HOA rules before the quote is final, and we tell you what the building will need to approve.
Can the survey be done when I am not home?
Access to the attic, panel and outdoor spot matters. Tell us what is locked or shared and we will plan the visit around it.
Do you install ductless too?
Yes. Single-zone and multi-zone ductless systems are part of our install work.
Can I change the equipment after the quote?
Yes, before you approve it. Tell us the change and we rewrite the quote with the new model and total.
