AC unit cost in West Los Angeles depends on which kind of system your house can take. Westside homes run from houses with ducts to condos with none, and the three main options are priced very differently. Ask for your written AC quote and we will give you the figure for your own house.
How each system is priced
| System | Installed price |
|---|---|
| 3-ton, 17 SEER2 central system | Written after the survey |
| Single-zone unit for one room | Written after the visit |
| Multi-zone system covering three rooms | Written after the visit |
We do not print one flat replacement number for a central system, because two houses on the same block can end up with very different totals. Ductwork condition and electrical panel capacity decide most of it. We do not publish one number for mini split installation either. Heads, distance and building rules change it too much.
Why the number moves
The unit itself is only part of the bill. Where your quote lands depends on:
- Ductwork condition for a central system: sealing, new returns or replacement.
- Electrical panel capacity: whether the panel carries the new load as is.
- Line-set length for ductless: longer runs between outdoor and indoor units cost more.
- Number of indoor heads on a multi-zone job.
- Condenser location and what it takes to get equipment there.
- Permit and any required duct leakage testing.
The quote prices each of these, so you know which ones apply to your house.
Which one fits your house
If the house has working ducts, central AC usually makes sense on cost, and the AC installation quote starts there. If the ducts are poor or the layout is awkward, compare against ductless. For one hot room, a single-zone ductless mini split can solve the problem for far less than a whole-house system. For three rooms, a multi-zone system avoids running new ducts.
We write the options up side by side when more than one fits. That is how you see the real gap between them for your own floor plan.
What the quote covers
The number on our quote is the installed price. It lists the equipment by model, the installation labor, any electrical or duct work, and the permit. The mechanical permit and final inspection are handled on every replacement. The quote is written before work starts, so you can read it before you decide.
Replacing an AC in California is permitted work, and in West Los Angeles the permit comes from LADBS. Depending on the scope, Title 24 Part 6 can require duct sealing and a duct leakage test, verified by a third-party HERS rater who is not the installer. If your job triggers it, it is in the quote.
How we get to your number
The survey is where the number gets set. We look at the attic or air handler location, the ducts, the panel and the spot for the outdoor unit. Then we run the room-by-room load calculation and choose equipment to match. The quote that follows shows one figure for your house, with the pieces behind it.
If the survey finds that the panel needs work or the ducts need sealing, that appears as its own line. You can see what each piece adds and decide whether to include it now.
Condos, duplexes and houses
A Century City condo, a Palms duplex and a Cheviot Hills house do not need the same system. A condo with no ducts may only fit ductless, and the outdoor unit spot may depend on the building. A house with working ducts may fit central. We say which options are realistic at the survey instead of quoting something that cannot be installed.
Comparing against another price
If you already have a number from another company, send it over. Check that it names the model and SEER2 rating, says how the tonnage was sized, and includes ducts, electrical and permit. A low total that leaves those out is not the same job. New residential split systems are now made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32, so the equipment line should reflect that too.
Our service area covers Rancho Park, Cheviot Hills, Palms, Century City, Inglewood and Ladera Heights. See the West Los Angeles page for coverage.
FAQ
Is the price the same for every house?
No. Your ducts, panel and line-set length decide the rest.
Does the price include the permit?
Yes. The permit and final inspection are part of the replacement job and are listed in the quote.
Can I get prices for central and ductless together?
Yes. When both fit, we write them up side by side.
Is a bigger unit better?
No. Tonnage comes from a room-by-room load calculation, not from the size of the old unit.
How do I get an exact number?
Book the survey. We measure the house and write the quote before any work starts.
